In health check tonight,
A local teenager will soon become one of the youngest people in the nation to undergo a stem cell transplant for crohn's disease.

Jean, For 13 year old Jordan Fifer this is his one chance at a normal life.

He has tried many medications but nothing has seemed to work --that's why his parents and doctors feel that a stem cell transplant is his best hope.

13 year old Jordan Fifer has gotten use to taking several medications a day, drawing his own blood, and living with constant stomach pain. And that's not the worse of it. His Crohn's disease meant at times he couldn't even eat.

Jordan is schedued to undergo a stem cell transplant at the end of the month at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. If it works it will give him a new immune system --and a life free of the disease.

Pediatric Gastroenterologist Michael Hart says Jordan has one of the worse cases of the inflammatory disease.

At least that has been the case for other children involved in the pre-clinical intervention trial of this treatment.
